City of Williamsburg to Host Drug Take Back Day, Shred It Event, Early Voting on Saturday, Oct. 28

The City of Williamsburg will collect unused prescription drugs and offer paper shredding services from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 28, in the Municipal Building parking lot, 401 Lafayette St.

Both events provide a drive-through option with parking available for anyone who needs assistance. City staff, including police officers, will be on site to guide and assist participants.

The Voter Registrar’s Office, located in the Municipal Building, will also be open for in-person early voting from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 28. Curbside assistance is also available. You must be a registered voter in the City of Williamsburg to cast a ballot at this location.

Drug Take Back

The Williamsburg Police Department is partnering with the Drug Enforcement Administration to participate in the national Prescription Drug Take Back Day, which provides a safe way to dispose of tablets, capsules, patches, and other solid forms of prescription drugs. 

Any expired or unused prescription or over-the-counter medication, including those that contain controlled substances, can be disposed of at this event. Sharps containers will be available for the disposal of sharps or needles. All medications dropped off during this event will be destroyed. For more information, visit DEATakeBack.com.

Shred-It 

The City of Williamsburg Public Works Department and the Williamsburg Police Department are hosting a free Shred-It event, which offers community members a safe, free opportunity to shred sensitive documents. This event is for residential shredding only. A maximum of three grocery store paper bags full of documents is allowed per household.

Items not accepted for shredding include:

  •  Electronic media
  • Batteries
  • Electrical items
  • Large metal objects
  • Sharp objects
  • Glass
  • Ink cartridges and toners
  • Cardboard tubes

 Used eyeglass and cell phone donations are also being accepted during this event on behalf of the Lions Club.
