Update: Suspicious Package Determined Not a Threat

Update

A suspicious package reported near 600 Jamestown Road has been determined not to be a threat.

Williamsburg Police and Fire departments responded to a call about a suspicious package at 5:38 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 18, 2023. William & Mary Police Department also responded to the scene. 

Public safety officials requested assistance from the Newport News Bomb Squad and evacuated four buildings in the immediate area, all within 300 feet of the package. Jamestown Road, between Landrum Drive and Ukrop Way, was closed to traffic.

After an investigation, the suspicious package was deemed not a threat by 8:30 p.m.

The FBI and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) also responded.

Williamsburg Police are responding to a report of a suspicious package near 600 Jamestown Road. Please stay clear of the area until further notice.

The Newport News Bomb Squad is enroute. 

Jamestown Road will be closed between Landrum Drive and Ukrop Way. Eastbound traffic will be detoured onto Ukrop Way; westbound traffic will be detoured onto Landrum Drive.

Williamsburg Police is also working with Williamsburg Fire Department, William & Mary Police Department.
