On February 26, 2022, at approximately 10:50 p.m., Williamsburg Police Department (WPD) officers were in the vicinity of the 300 block of Scotland St when they heard a single gunshot. A traffic stop was initiated on a fleeing vehicle which led to a brief vehicle pursuit. A felony stop was conducted at the intersection of Richmond Rd and Stadium Dr and two males were detained. Officers located and secured two pistols from inside the suspect’s vehicle. One shell casing was recovered near the area where the single gunshot was heard.
The males were identified as Kaisen Dorrell Branch, 23, of Cumberland, VA and Jymeke Maquan Carpenter, 23, of North Chesterfield, VA. Both suspects were transported to the Virginia Peninsula Regional Jail (VPRJ). Mr. Branch was charged with eluding police (46.2-817). Mr. Carpenter was charged with weapon possession by a felon (18.2-308.2), carrying a concealed weapon (18.2-308), discharging a firearm in a public place (18.2-280), and brandishing a firearm (18.2-282).
An uninvolved vehicle was reported to have approximately $600 in property damage. The tire and rim were impacted by a bullet. No injuries were reported.
