[ARCHIVED] Robbery Suspect Arrested

armed robbery suspectThe Williamsburg Police Department has arrested a man in connection with an armed robbery of a 7-Eleven.

On Dec. 15, 2021, at approximately 9 p.m., officers were dispatched to a past occurred armed robbery in the 1500 block of Richmond Road. The initial investigation revealed that the suspect walked behind the counter, pointed a black pistol at both clerks, and demanded money out of the register. The suspect struck one of the clerks in the head with his handgun. The suspect fled the scene after robbing the business of cash from the register.

The Williamsburg Police Criminal Investigations Bureau with the assistance of the James City County Police Department located the clothing and wig used in the armed robbery. The suspect was quickly identified as Irshad Mahmood, 27, of James City County. The following warrants were obtained against Irshad Mahmood:

  • 18.2-58 (Robbery)
  • 18.2-53.1 (Use or display of firearm in committing felony)
  • 18.2-422 (Prohibition of wearing of masks in certain places)

On Dec. 17, 2021, the Williamsburg Police Criminal Investigations Bureau apprehended Irshad Mahmood in North Carolina with the assistance of Edgecombe County Sherrif’s Office. Irshad Mahmood was transported to the Edgecombe County Detention Center in North Carolina.  The investigation remains ongoing.
