On its last day of operation, the Greater Williamsburg Clinic in the Colonial Williamsburg Visitor Center administered 1,125 doses of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine this week for a total of 22,840 since its opening on Friday, Jan. 22, 2021. In nearly four months of operation, the clinic did not waste a single dose of the vaccine.
As announced earlier this week, the clinic is closing because the demand for a mass vaccination clinic has diminished as vaccine supply has become more available. The clinic’s information line — 877-724-1954 — will remain open through May 31, 2021, to help guide people in the Greater Williamsburg area find an available vaccine appointment nearby.
The Greater Williamsburg Clinic has been a collaborative effort from the City of Williamsburg, James City County, York County, Virginia Department of Health, Colonial Williamsburg Foundation, and William & Mary.
Earlier this week, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) announced that fully vaccinated people can resume activities without wearing a mask or staying 6 feet apart, except where required by federal, state, local, tribal, or territorial laws, including local business and workplace guidance. Gov. Ralph Northam announced on Friday that Virginia will follow the CDC’s new guidelines.
Also this week, the Virginia Department of Health announced that providers across Virginia can begin vaccinating people aged 12-15 following the federal approval of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine. Williamsburg Drug Company hosted a pop-up clinic at Warhill High School on Friday for anyone 12 years or older.
Starting Saturday, May 15:
- The maximum number of individuals permitted in a social gathering will increase to 100 people for indoor settings and 250 for outdoor settings.
- Indoor entertainment and public amusement venues will be allowed to operate at 50% capacity or 1,000 people. Outdoor venues will be able to operate at 50% capacity.
- The number of spectators allowed at indoor recreation sporting events will be set at 250 spectators or 50% capacity, whichever is less.
- Restaurants may return to selling alcohol after midnight, and dining room closures will no longer be required between midnight and 5 a.m.
Northam announced that in two weeks, on May 28, 2021, all mitigation restrictions on capacity and distancing in public spaces and businesses will be lifted.
The City of Williamsburg has posted its weekly vaccination update to its online hub, which collects the latest coronavirus information and visual data. This data includes the number of vaccinations administered at the Greater Williamsburg Clinic.
