[ARCHIVED] Commercial Structure Fire — 800 Block of Capitol Landing Road

The City of Williamsburg Fire Department, James City County Fire Department, and York County Fire and Life Safety responded to the 800 block of Capitol Landing Road for a report of a commercial structure fire on Saturday, March 20, 2021.

Units were dispatched at 8:26 a.m., with the first units arriving on scene at 8:31 a.m. to find heavy fire and smoke coming from the front of the building and the roof. Approximately 10% of the building was impacted by the fire, which was marked under control at 8:50 a.m.

Initial strategies and tactics performed by the responding fire departments were evacuation of the building and aggressive suppression efforts to minimize the spread of the fire. After initial knockdown of the fire, salvage and overhaul operations were conducted with no fire extension found. WFD, with assistance from James City County Fire Marshals and Williamsburg Police, are currently investigating the cause and origin of the fire. Approximately 27 fire personnel were dispatched to the incident.

Five total patients were treated for injuries related to the fire; two adult patients were transported via helicopter to hospitals and one pediatric patient was ground-transported to the hospital. Approximately 67 occupants have been temporarily displaced as result of the fire. Williamsburg’s Human Services and Code Compliance departments were on scene to support operations.
