Real Estate Tax Exemption for Disabled Veterans

Code of Virginia (1950) Section 58.1-3219.5, as amended, provides for a state-wide exemption of real property taxes for United States Veterans who have been declared by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs to have a 100% service-connected, permanent and total disability. In order to qualify for exemption from the City of Williamsburg real property taxation, the permanently and totally disabled United States Veteran must own real property in the City of Williamsburg either individually or jointly with the veteran's spouse and occupy that property as the veteran's principal place of residence. The exemption applies only to the dwelling occupied as the principal place of residence, and the underlying land on which the dwelling is located.
