Inspection Request Types
Building Permits
Footings
Before any concrete is placed , but after any required steel is in placed and tied. If a soils report is needed, it shall be presented at this time if not before this inspection.
Concrete or Slabs
Slabs, beams and columns before placing concrete, and after all required steel is in place and tied. Any rough-ins for plumbing, electrical, gas or mechanical work shall be inspected if under or imbedded in the concrete. Waste, vent, and water lines must be tested before placing concrete.
Pilings
Pilings shall be inspected by a certified professional that is approved by the building Code Official.
1st Foundation or Projection
- First course of block placement on footings
Box / Joist or 2nd Foundation
- Anchor bolt placement and tightness
- Floor joist placement, nailing and hangers
- Truss bracing, blocking, and hangers
Waterproofing or Backfill
Before backfill, check for drain tile, proper damp or waterproofing, ventilation vents, and backfill material.
Trades
All electrical, plumbing, mechanical, sprinkler and fire alarm systems shall be inspected and properly tested before any concealing work or the framing inspections can be made.
Sheathing
Sheathing is performed after all exterior wall sheathing and roofing is installed. All braced wall blocking, hold-downs or other anchors installed.
Framing
Floors, walls and roofs are checked before insulation is added. (Steel connections and placement shall be inspected by an approved third party and reports submitted to the building department.)
Fireplace
Framing of fireplace unit and flue venting before drywall installation.
Insulation
Insulation must be installed before concealment with drywall.
Fire Stopping
Fire stopping is required for some commercial or residential projects.
Drywall
Drywall is required for fire-rated assemblies.
1st Layer
Inspect before taping and finishing to verify fastening and type of material. Listed assemble details to be provided at the project for use by inspectors.
2nd Layer
Shafts and multi layer assemblies must be checked as each layer is applied.
Finals
Before receiving a certificate of occupancy or final approval for use. Building final inspections may be requested along with trade finals, but building final inspection and approval can only be achieved if the trades pass and are approved.
Tents
Tents must be inspected before use for compliance. Tents requiring more than one means of egress and must be provided with emergency powered exit signs and lighting. Heating and electrical equipment will be permitted and inspected. An occupancy load will be established before use and provisions for temporary wiring must be followed.
Fuel Storage Tanks
- Fill in Place: Inspection of empty tank prior to slurry fill, then another inspection after tank is filled and capped off.
- Installation: Inspection of new underground tank in place before backfilled. Above ground tanks are also inspected for proper anchorage.
- Removal or Inspection of the open ground hole with empty tank removed before it is backfilled. Testing of soil may be required if fuel product is found when the tank is removed for inspection.
Electrical Permits
Rough-In
Rough-Ins are to be inspected and tested before any concealing work or framing inspections. Grounds and bonds must be tied and connected to metal boxes at that time.
Trench-In
- Underground electrical wiring
Meter Release
- Inspection for grounded circuit to release meter for service
Final
- Final inspection for completion of all permitted work
Gas Permits
Rough-In
Gas lines shall be tested with air at 1-1/2 times the working pressure.
Final
Inspection of connections to appliances or equipment. Meter is then released to utility company for service.
Mechanical Permits
Commercial Fire Department will review and inspect the hoods fire protection systems.
Kitchen Hoods
The Codes Compliance staff reviews and inspects the kitchen hood, ductwork, shafts, electrical, and gas connections.
Heating, Ventilation & Air Conditioning Rough-Ins
- Anything that could be concealed by insulation or drywall
Finals
- Final inspection for completion of all permitted work
Plumbing Permits
Under Slab Rough-In
- Before the foundation slab is poured, or any plumbing that may be concealed within concrete
Rough-Ins
- Inspected and tested before any concealing work or framing inspections. Plumbing waste and vent systems shall be tested with a head of water or air pressure.
Sewer or Water
- Outside sewer lines shall be tested with a head of water or air pressure
Service
- Water lines shall be tested with the equivalence of their working pressure
Finals
- Final inspection for completion of all permitted work
Fire Protection Permits
Fire Alarm/Detection systems require 100% testing and inspection.
Sprinkler and fire alarm systems shall be inspected and properly tested before concealing work. Fire sprinkler and standpipe systems will require visual and hydrostatic testing before piping is concealed.
